Saas Fee 4000ers

The Saastal is a major alpine valley with the greatest concentration of 4000m peaks in the Alps, one of those gems for classic mountaineering. There are no less then 18 4000m summits surrounding the area and many of these are relatively straightforward, however good fitness and basic experience of using crampons and an ice axe are necessary, and the potential for traditional mountaineering is immense. For some the ideal place to start your alpine peak bagging career to climbing the mountain of your dreams after years of training.

We spent a whole week together with a group of clients from ISM exploring the area. This summer has been epic with respect to stable and hot weather; the glaciers in the Alps have melted a lot; mountain routes have been closed down by local authorities; heavy rock-falls; I have encountered some very deep and wide crevasses and so on. However, this week gave us some unstable weather, but still some great conditions, and we had to climb according to the weather windows. In the end we managed to climb: Strahlhorn (4190m), Normal Route : Allalinhorn (4027m) , Hohlaubgrat : Lagginhorn (4010m), Normal Route (even new summits for the mountain guides).

A great big thanks to everyone for this week!
